pretty sure we know what you need to do... Stick it in the jeep.
Wait, that's not right. Stick it *to her* in the jeep. Or on the jeep. Isn't that what leaf spring suspensions were made for?

Girl: "JFC, will these nerds just accept I'm not going to fuck them and leave me the hell alone?"
Source: I had a motorcycle and was one of 7 women in my year in the aerospace engineering department... never slept with or dated a single dude in aero because ewww no to most and even if they were not completely socially inept, those fuckers gossip and ain't nobody got time for that.
Seriously, treat her like a fellow human. Why does that even need to be said? :/

So you're basically the Tom Cruise of engineering (minutes the questionable sexuality and ego problems... I'm assuming?). Bike? Check. Airplanes? Check. Yea I can't even imagine how much you got harassed.
I can agree with you though. We'll see how that plan goes. Presumably far better than any other option.

There's a good chance she's actually TALLER than Tom Cruise too.
Fun story - a buddy of mine was out getting ice cream with some other friends. Tom Cruise was in town shooting a movie. The ice cream place had loudish music playing. Someone who looked like TomCruise was ahead in the line. There was great discussion about whether or not it was actually Tom Cruise. The music cuts out just as my buddy says "It's not Tom Cruise. It can't be, because Tom Cruise is not a midget."
Had the music been up, it'd have gone unnoticed. Instead, it seemed as if he was yelling across the entire store.
It WAS Tom Cruise. He IS a midget. He's also sensitive about it, because he got very pissed off looking about the comment.

Funny story, somewhat related:
My wife and I are going to comic con this weekend, and among the event updates on Facebook they announce "Geek Speed Dating". Ladies are free and men pay $20. Countless men comment to complain about pricing, saying it's dumb that the men have to pay but the women don't. They don't seem to realize that it's too keep the numbers even. And really, if they can't pick up on that, they're probably better off sourcing $20 elsewhere.

Lol, I'm not straight, and pilots != engineers, but it's basically a degree requirement to be able to recite Top Gun lines, so there's that. Us women stuck together a la Mean Girls (wore pink on Wednesdays, jokingly said "you can't sit with us!") and didn't take any shit, so anyone who was an asshole was just blackballed. Even the ancient professor who insinuated in front of the whole class that Courtney and I would be most useful to our team by sewing (what fucking year is this? 2012?) got a talking-to from the department. It also helped that I was in a sorority and hung out/studied with the guys from fraternities I liked who were also in my major. Yes, the "frat guy" engineers were better to be around than "the nerds." Let that sink in!

LOL! In reality, that $20/dude is actually going to be paid as bribes directly to the women who show up.
(jk, comic con crowds are allegedly getting better according to my friends who do SDCC)

Haha they are getting better, as well as the "geek scene" in general. But the typical geek desperation, combined with the perceived speed dating desperation, could make this seem like a daunting event for many women.

As a "frat guy" engineer this sounds entirely accurate.

eh, tech school (WPI) nerds=everywhere. The really inept ones never actually left their rooms, so the 70:30 ratio never seemed quite as bad walking around

I was a frat guy chem major. Actually most of us in the chem department were greek. The few that weren't were a few girls who were stuck up bitches to everyone including the professors. They were smart, yes, but impossible to work with. And when you're trying to splice bacteria DNA to include a "glow in the dark" bit, you really need to communicate with your lab partner on your timetable and what to do next. To this day, I'm not entirely sure what we made. All I know is that I should never play God......
